
WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?
To support our Community through Service Programs

Conservation
-
Participates in "Keep America Beautiful" programs through educational and hands-on instructions in litter prevention, recycling and waste reduction, beautification and community greening
-
Educates community about landfill options for disposal of batteries, used oil, antifreeze, lead acid batteries
-
Addresses concerns for pollutants in storm water and rain run-off
-
Presents alternative options for water use and conservation such as rain barrels

Arts
-
Works to promote the arts in our club, community, and our schools
-
SWC sponsors an annual Arts Festival that displays the works of local high school and middle school students, and SWC members. Selected works are displayed at the District Festival and winners advance to the State Competition

Education
-
Annual awarding of the Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship which could amount to more than $22,000 over 4 years for a High School senior selected through competition at the District and State Level

Funds scholarships to Brunswick Community College Foundation of Nursing

Encourages literacy through special programs at local schools

Assists families with a Special Needs Child

Donates time in classroom and school activities

Provides school supplies to local schools

Provides test proctors and mentors

SWC hosts a Military Band Dinner for the Southport 4th of July Celebration

Presentation for students at Southport Elementary School to explain the meaning of Veterans Day

A Domestic Abuse Awareness Cards Program is ongoing which provides Hope Harbor contact information to victims of domestic violence

Supports "Operation At Ease" a local program focused on providing a family getaway for depolying military service members and their families

Civic Engagement

Women's health issues are highlighted and discussed
-
Ongoing programs include gifts, donations, and support to the NC Boys and Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw
-
SWC donates to and supports other service agencies including Providence Home, New Hope Medical Clinic, Hope Harbor Home, Human Needs Food Pantry and others
